Tchaikovsky

From symphonies and operas to concertos and ballets, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s work stands out as among the greatest in Russian repertoire. He wrote no fewer than ten operas, two of which are regularly performed in opera houses all over the world: Eugene Onegin and The Queen of Spades. ‘Maestro of Ballet Music’, he also composed the famous trilogy Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, and Sleeping Beauty.

Tchaikovsky was highly influenced by Western European composers, such as MozartWagner and Bizet, alongside his native Russian folk traditions. His ability to fuse a classical idiom with Russian folksongs is a hallmark of Tchaikovsky’s direct style which gives musical expressions to the most vivid emotions.
